Regular grooming of your dog may help you find symptoms of dog health problems that he might have. Once you think your dog has any symptom of illness, keep a diary of the condition to see if it worsens or not. Listed below are some of the common dog health problems.

 

  • Lumps and bumps. These symptoms are usually associated to tumors. However, there are many lumps that actually don’t cause problems at all. The safest bet is to have these lumps inspected by the animal veterinarian so that he can determine whether they are harmful or not.

 

  • Obesity. If you can feel your dog’s ribs easily, then your dog is a healthy one. If not, then he is obese. Obesity can cause many dog health problems other than your dog being tired easily. To resolve this, you must lessen your dog’s food intake. If this doesn’t work, however, you can also resort to giving him “light” dog food instead of the regular ones.

 

  • Dental problems. Oral problems must not be taken lightly. If untreated, they can actually bring about more problems especially when bacteria enter the blood. You can ensure healthy oral care by brushing your dog’s teeth regularly. After doing this, check if there is any inflammation, teeth problems, pain, or bleeding in the mouth. If so, bring him to the animal vet clinics for cleaning.

 

  • Allergies. Like humans, dogs can be allergic to just about anything. Symptoms of allergies include scratching or paw licking. A visit to the vet should be made so that he can advise you on how to manage the problem.

 

  • “Hot spots”. These red, irritated, moist, and inflamed wounds are usually found on your dog’s skin especially during warm weather. These can be caused by anything ranging from allergies to poor dog grooming. You may find your dog licking and scratching them, which actually makes them worse than they are. If your dog has this, bring him to the vet so that he can get medication.
